Gear Pump - Liquid Delivery System

Sono-Tek's gear-type metering pump systems are intended to be used in ultrasonic spray nozzle applications where precise metering of flow is required and where flow rates are in the range of 10 to 200 ml/min (0.16 to 3.3 gph). The pump body is magnetically coupled to the motor, eliminating rotating seals and any possibility of liquid contaminating the motor These systems are ideal in circumstances where electronic control of flow rate is important, in continuous or intermittent flow situations.

Features:

  • Completely integrated functionality with all Sono-Tek Ultrasonic Spray Nozzle Systems Available in flow rate ranges of 10 - 70 or 40 - 200 ml/min (0.16 - 1.2 or 0.7 - 3.4 gph) Continuous circulation of liquid. Liquid is directed either back to the source (when the nozzle is idle) or to the nozzle, via a three-way valve. This mode of operation is ideal for achieving accurate delivery in intermittent flow applications LED display of flow rate.Complete flow rate calibration facilities Toggle switch to increase or decrease flow rate.
  • Trigger inputs and outputs to synchronize operation with the nozzle and for external on/off command signals.

Sono-Tek's gear pump systems offer the following advantages:

  • Pulseless operation Compatible with both continuous and intermittent flow applications
  • Total electronic control of flow rate and on/off functions, internally or through external PLCs or PCs

These systems are not recommended for applications in which the liquid to be sprayed contains undissolved solids.

Operating Principle

Operating Principle:

Gear pumps are characterized by their intrinsic capability to meter the flow of liquid accurately. A representation of a gear pump configuration is illustrated at the right. The two gears that create the pumping action rotate in opposite directions. Liquid entering the left side of the chamber is drawn into the space between the teeth of the rotating gear and the suction shoe. The gears are designed such that liquid cannot flow through the area where they mesh, thereby preventing the backflow of liquid to the inlet. The amount of liquid trapped between the gear teeth is always the same. It relies solely on the available volume contained within the confines of adjacent gear teeth. The flow rate is controlled by the rotational speed of the gears, which can be regulated by varying motor speed. The best gear pumps use a motor that magnetically couples the rotation of the motor shaft to the pump’s gears in order to completely isolate the pump from the motor. Pumps of this type have lift capabilities of 1 to 4 feet.
