Ultrasonic Atomization for Food & Food Packaging
Innovative Technology Leading the Way for Future Food Packaging & Food Manufacturing Practices
Benefits for food & food packaging applications using ultrasonic nozzles include:
- Enhanced safety in the form of superior barrier films, superior aseptic package sterilization and natural antimicrobial nano/microcoatings
- New and improved products using nano/microlayer nutriceutical coatings
- Cost of Goods (COGs) savings, often over 50% resulting from optimized uniform thin film coatings and dramatically reduced overspray, minimizing the use of expensive materials, e.g. decorative coatings and glazes for baked goods
- Reduced consumption with better performance, e.g. baking pan releases
Sono-Tek Corporation, the leading expert in ultrasonic spray technology, is expanding into the food and food packaging industry. We have over three decades of technical expertise coating a wide range of substrates for companies in several industries worldwide including precision medical devices, glass, textiles, semiconductors and electronics.
Our ultrasonic spray nozzle systems have replaced pressure nozzles in a wide range of industrial and R&D applications. Concerns over the environment and unacceptable quantities of waste have caused companies to adopt ultrasonic spraying systems as a technology that is more precise, more controllable, and more environmentally friendly than other application methods.
Sono-Tek ultrasonic nozzles dramatically reduce overspray, saving money and reducing atmospheric contamination. Since they will not clog or wear out, they help reduce downtime in manufacturing processes. For many applications, Sono-Tek ultrasonic nozzles yield results far superior to conventional spraying methods. The inherent benefits of ultrasonic spray technology leads to a natural fit with the food and food packaging industry, offering many benefits.

Sono-Tek ultrasonic nozzle technology is a well-known, proven technology to produce a low-velocity spray with a controlled drop size. Non-clogging ultrasonic technology minimizes downtime, with low maintenance.
Ultrasonic nozzles operate by converting a high-frequency electrical signal, fed into two electrodes sandwiched between two piezoelectric transducers, resulting in mechanical expansion and contraction of the transducers. This causes vibrations to be sent down the nozzle's titanium horn, ultrasonically vibrating at the nozzle's atomizing tip. Liquid emerging onto the atomizing surface is broken into a spray by the ultrasonic energy concentrated there. This ultrasonic nozzle design provides an easily controllable atomized spray that cannot clog because of the large feed orifice and the self-cleaning ultrasonic vibration.
