Solar Cell

With over 30 years of industry leadership in ultrasonic spray technology, Sono-Tek has the experience to help you integrate our technology into your application. The expertise of our engineering staff gives us the ability to help customers solve process issues to develop systems that meet the needs of each unique application.

OPERATING PRINCIPLE

The SelectaFlux Reftrofit Systemis a complete, ready-to-integrate selective fluxing system. It combines Sono-Tek’s unique Microspray ultra-sonic atomizing nozzle with low-pressure air to produce a controlled, highly focused beam of spray. A separate control module handles input/output system functions. Compressed air, typically at 1 psi, is introduced into the diffusion chamber of the air shroud, which produces a uniformly distributed flow of air around the nozzle stem. The ultrasonically produced spray at the tip of the stem is immediately entrained in the air stream. An adjustable focusing mechanism on the air shroud allows complete control of spray width. The spray envelope is bow-shaped. The width of the bow is controlled by moving the focus-adjust mechanism in and out. The distance between nozzle and substrate can be varied from near-contact to approximately two inches.

Each WideTrack spray assembly contains a pair of air jets which alternately pulse to drive the spray downward. The timing and force of the pulses produces a spray pattern that oscillates back and forth across the substrate.

Operating Principle

Ultrasonic Nozzles for Solar Cell Manufacturing

The SelectaFlux ultrasonic spray system is well-suited for applying soldering flux to the connections of photovoltaic cells. Applying the proper flux concentration to precisely targeted areas is a key factor in making reliable solder joints for high volume production lines. Sono-Tek is one of the originators of spray fluxing technology. As the needs of the industry have changed, we have continued our commitment to leadership through state-of-the-art design and unsurpassed customer service.

  • Self-cleaning ultrasonic nozzle prevents clogging
  • Compatible with ALL fluxes
  • Reduced wasteful overspray and atmospheric contamination
  • Minimal servicing and downtime
  • Spray pattern adjustable from 2 mm - 38 mm (0.080”- 1.50”)
  • Wide range of flux delivery rates from .02 ml/min and ups

Sono-Tek's WideTrack system is a highly effective method of applying uniform coatings of liquid dopant solgel solutions, phosphoric acid solutions, titanium and zinc oxides as well as anti-reflection materials to maximize solar cell efficiencies.

  • Ultrasonically atomized small droplet sizes – allow solutions to diffuse into the cell more effectively than other doping methods
  • Low-velocity ultrasonic spray– minimal bounceback and overspray
  • Non-clogging ultrasonic nozzle – minimal servicing and downtime
  • Uniform thin films – superior anti-reflective coatings for increased solar cell efficiency
  • Flexibility to vary spray width – to any size solar cell

SONO-TEK ULTRASONIC NOZZLES ARE PROVEN FOR HIGH-VOLUME SOLAR CELL MANUFACTURING

The SelectaFlux Retrofit Control Module is a compact, self-contained module consisting of flux control system; power supplies, ultrasonic broadband generator, electrical inputs and outputs, displays power, control of pressure to liquid delivery pressure reservoir, and pressure to air shroud. The module contains a digital display for nozzle power and panel-mounted nozzle power, flow rate, and air pressure adjustments.

Each WideTrack spray assembly contains a pair of air jetswhich alternately pulse to drive the spray downward. The timing andforce of the pulses produces a spray pattern that oscillates back and forth across the substrate.

Sono-Tek ultrasonic nozzle technology is a well-known, proven technology to produce a low-velocity spray with a controlled drop size. Non-clogging ultrasonic technology minimizes downtime, with low maintenance.

Ultrasonic nozzles operate by converting a high-frequency electrical signal, fed into two electrodes sandwiched between two piezoelectric transducers, resulting in mechanical expansion and contraction of the transducers. This causes vibrations to be sent down the nozzle's titanium horn, ultrasonically vibrating at the nozzle's atomizing tip. Liquid emerging onto the atomizing surface is broken into a spray by the ultrasonic energy concentrated there. This ultrasonic nozzle design provides an easily controllable atomized spray that cannot clog because of the large feed orifice and the self-cleaning ultrasonic vibration.
