Ultrasonic Nozzles for Fuel Cell Coating

Guide Wire

With over 30 years of industry leadership in ultrasonic spray technology,Sono-Tek has the experience to help you integrate our technology into your application. The expertise of our engineering staff gives us the ability to help customers solve process issues to develop systems that meet the needs of each unique application. From large-scale, automated turnkey systems to individual spray system components, Sono-Tek delivers the support you need to take full advantage of the benefits of ultrasonic spraying through state-of-the-art design and unsurpassed customer service.

The rapid development of fuel cell markets now includes a wide variety of products, from stationary fuel cell installations for supplying home/commercial electricity and heating to fuel cell powered automobiles, trucks, and aircraft. Portable devices for camping and military usage as well as battery replacement for cellular phones, PDAs and laptop computers are also utilizing fuel cell technology. As these markets begin the transition from R&D/development to production, the need for efficient, reliable manufacturing equipment arises. Sono-Tek’s ultrasonic systems are meeting the needs of these fuel cell manufacturers. Ultrasonic nozzles are ideal for spraying Proton Exchange Membranes (PEMs) with catalyst solutions including carbon black, conductive inks, PTFE binder, platinum, nickel and/or resins. The uniform thin film coating achieved with ultrasonics retains the porosity of the electrode and does not impede the transport of reactants due to flooding of the electrode surface. Catalyst solutions will not clog the ultrasonic nozzle, allowing for precise coatings with controlled droplet sizes at ultra-low flow rates.

Sono-Tek Ultrasonic Nozzles Feature:

  • Up to 80% reduction in material consumption
  • Reduced wasteful overspray and atmospheric contamination
  • Minimal servicing and downtime
  • Spray patterns that are easily shaped for precise coating applications
  • Highly controllable spray that produces reliable, consistent results
  • Non-clogging
  • No moving parts to wear out
  • Ultra-low flow rate capabilities, intermittent or continuous

Sono-Tek offers a large number of nozzle configurations with a wide range of controlled droplet sizes to coat small or large substrates, depending on your needs.

We also offer small platform XYZ systems and fully programmable stand alone systems to meet your manufacturing requirements. Visit our website for more detailed information on these systems.
